As stated in my last post, working small allows the artist to try many ideas in a short amount of time with low pressure resulting in a variety of free, expressive works. These exercises are immensely satisfying stretching the artist, expanding skills, and deepening knowledge.
In this post I share new paintings in the 1/8 sheet format. They are framed 14″ x 11″ in the Swiss clip format, with mat, foam core backing, and glass. All are available for $115, including shipping. These paintings are offered as #artistsupportpledge artworks.
Artist Support Pledge
Artists make their living by showing and selling their art and by teaching art technique-based workshops or art courses. With the Covid19 pandemic, art centers have been shuttered, galleries closed, exhibitions and classes canceled. Avenues for generating income closed for artists when the art centers and galleries closed their doors. As art galleries and centers begin to reopen, attendance is sparse, so support for artists continues to be critical.
During the quarantine, British artist, Matthew Burrows conceived of a platform where artists can share and sell their artwork to stimulate the art market and directly benefit other artists. Through Instagram, artists post images of their work with the pledge that each time the artist makes $1000 in sales, the artist will commit to using 20% of their earnings to purchase another artist’s work. Burrows’ concept creates a sustainable “micro-culture and economy” to generate income and immediacy. Along with offering my small artworks on Instagram as part of the Artist Support Pledge, I am also offering them on Facebook and this WordPress website. To learn more, read How a hashtag caused a surge of optimism for artists on Instagram
All of the artwork featured on my website is promised for the #ArtistSupportPledge in 2020.

Color studies exploring the figure/ground relationship. Birds are cool with a warm background, while the fish are warm with a cool background. Mixing wet-into-wet, colors blend seamlessly offering variety within the color scheme.
Nature gives me serenity. It is a source of inspiration, as well as a refuge.

Like all the paintings above, this piece is about a sense of place. Inspired by the aboriginal Dreamtime paintings, it is a painting of my home. This painting was featured in the May 19, 2020 post. Learn more about this special piece; click link for Colorado Songlines
